"It has been more than twenty years since Congress has reauthorized the Peace Corps Act. The National Peace Corps Association’s top priority is to see Congress pass the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act, comprehensive legislation that seeks to address longstanding proposals for reforms and more recent initiatives to bring further improvements to service and its impact for the next generation of Volunteers and the communities where they serve. A number of these provisions are found in NPCA’s Peace Corps Connect to the Future report."
Take Action to reauthorize Peace Corps here.
Funding for the Peace Corps
The Peace Corps received an additional 20 million in their FY 23 budget from 411 million to 431 million. However, the Peace Corps Reauthorization Act of 2022 did not pass. There were last minute objections by 2 Senators. The plan is to refile the bill with some changes. They will remove items from the new legislation such as workmen’s compensation, educational benefits and only one months of healthcare insurance.
